It is true, Hull gets a bad rep much of the time. But things seem to be changing since our success in the bid to become City of Culture 2017. It's as if the world is suddenly sitting up and taking notice. Businesses, footballers, musicians, property developers, and politicians are clamouring for piece of what is now securely considered an 'up-and-coming' city.
In a recent article exploring the best of Yorkshire's food, The Guardian's food critic Marina O'Loughlin echoed this sentiment - Hull "has a real sense of renewed energy and optimism...and that energy is affecting the food scene".
Describing 'cool' Newland Avenue, with its array of coffee shops, we were thrilled to see that we had been singled out along with one of our favourites, Fudge, as among the top 'world class cuisine' available in Yorkshire.
Of particular interest to O'Loughlin were our 'pneumatic' sausage rolls, Moroccan spiced vegetable and falafel pie and BBQ pulled pork pie.
