We hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and New Year. 2015 was an amazing year for The Hull Pie, but we want to make 2016 even better.
As a way of saying thank you for your support over the last four years, we’re adding some exciting new pies to the menu. But first we want to tell you about the biggest change of all.
You may have noticed a change to the look of our pies. We are now using the more traditional method instead of wrapping them.
Why the change? Well this was 3-fold. Firstly, the feedback we got from you guys was that the folds of the wrap caused too many layers of pastry across the top. This occasionally caused an uneven bake of the pastry.
Secondly, wrapping our pies limited the range of flavours we could use because of the fact that we couldn’t use mixtures that were wet or made with sauce. By using this new method, we now have more options when it comes to adding new and exciting flavours to the menu! This is now why we can do better mixtures that don't get dry and can have creamier sauces.
Finally, most of the awards we aimed for this year came back with the same feedback: "Great flavour, great taste but too much pastry and uneven baking".
Other than the style of the pie, nothing else has changed. Our pies still have the same great taste you have come to expect from The Hull Pie, same pastry recipe and they still contain just as much filling.
Three of our new flavours will be introduced to the menu on Monday 11th Jan: Slow Roasted Lamb & Mint; Chicken, Ham & Mushroom with White Wine & Thyme Sauce; and a delicious vegetarian option in the form of our new Cauliflower & Broccoli Cheese Pie.
This will mean a slight change in the menu. The caramelised Red Onion & Potato pie, Jamaican Jerk Chicken and Chicken, Ham & Leek pies will no longer be available as of Monday 11th January. That’s not to say they’ll be gone for good, though! They may make special appearances throughout the year as specials, alongside other new flavours that we will be trialling in the future.
Speaking of specials - with the addition of a new manager in our bakery, we’ll be adding lots of new items to our already extensive sweets selection as we launch our new Sweetie Pie range of sweet treats. Most of these new additions will be available exclusively from The Bakery on Cottingham Road initially, but we will be bringing these items down to our Newland branch within a few months.
